We all want to look the best that we can and a lot of people go to very exclusive and expensive spas to accomplish that. What many don’t realize is that they don’t have to go to a spa to get the benefits of a spa experience, you can do many of the regimens yourself on a on a daily basis and achieve the same results.
Your lifestyle is so important to how you look. You can spot someone that is not taking care of themselves by smoking, drinking, eating all the wrong foods or living with too much stress. It shows on their face and those are the signs that you are destroying your body from within. The better you take care of yourself, the better you look. It’s that simple. Your day to day choices make a huge difference in how you look and feel and you need to stay on track and work at it every day.
The great thing about consistently making healthy lifestyle choices and eating foods that nourish your body is that you will notice results in a matter of days so it really can be the “quick fix” everyone is looking for.
How do you start?
Once you start realizing the benefits of your healthy lifestyle it will get easier. You won’t crave the empty calorie or sweet foods you once did, you’ll be craving the healthy foods that nourish your body and you’ll find that eating the foods that made you tired or bloated just isn’t worth it.
Let me help you get started. I recently interviewed Dr. Trevor Cates who is a naturopathic practitioner known as the “Spa Doctor”. She shared some insights on how you can quickly look and feel better starting from the inside out.
Here are the top three things that you can do that will help you see the quickest results and stay motivated.
The number one food that is the most toxic for your body and causes a lot of negative symptoms is sugar. It’s an extremely addictive food. Once you eliminate the sugar from your diet and start getting used to foods that aren’t so sweet, which can take time, you won’t be craving the overly sweet foods you once did.
You also need to start reading ingredient labels on the foods you buy because sugar is everywhere. You’ll be surprised by the sugar content that’s in most packaged food. So start looking at the sugar content of the food you buy and be aware of how it adds up over the day.
By eliminating sugar you will reduce the signs of aging on your skin, slow down the aging process in the body, reduce the occurrence of acne breakouts and feel better because your energy levels won’t have huge up’s and downs which will allow you to experience less fatigue.
#2 – Hydration
It’s really important to drink plenty of water and it should be filtered water because you don’t want to add any more toxins to your body than you are already exposed to a daily basis.
People can usually tell what the right amount of water is for them but as a general rule you should drink at least eight glasses of water a day. When you first wake up in the morning, drink a big glass of water since you spent the whole night without any hydration.
Hydration does involve more than just water. You need to get your electrolytes, especially if you’re exercising and perspiring because that’s how your body loses electrolytes. Remember, when you’re thirsty you’re already past the point of dehydration so you have to continue drinking an adequate amount of water all through the day.
Another reason to drink water is that when your body is asking for hydration it can be masked as hunger and then you tend to overeat. Don’t be fooled by this. Next time you think you’re hungry drink a big glass of water and see how your hunger magically disappears.
Another way to determine if you’re drinking enough water is to take a look at your urine. It should be clear, so if it’s a dark yellow that’s a sign that you need to be drinking more water.
#3 – Antioxidants
These are ultra-important. Their key function is to reverse the free radical damage that occurs with exposure to toxins and sunlight, which speeds up the aging process and shows up on our skin. When you consume antioxidants, you’re helping to reverse the damage and when we eat antioxidant rich foods it’s protecting our skin from within. The result is when we are exposed to sunlight our body doesn’t have the same kind of damaging effect to your skin.
Where can you find antioxidants? Eat lots of colorful vegetables which are not only nutrient rich foods but also packed with fiber. You also need a couple of servings of fruits every day. Choose berries and cherries which are colorful fruits and stay away from fruits like bananas which have a high sugar content.
Taking these small easy steps every day will help you look better, slow down the aging process, reduce your chance of getting cancer and help you achieve your ideal body weight while increasing your energy level and possibly reverse some chronic health conditions.
