Quite a few people have reached out to me surrounding various health challenges.  There’s a lot of illness out there and it seems to be more than usual unfortunately. Whether you’ve been handed a devastating diagnosis such as diabetes or even worse cancer, or if you’re  trying  to get off medications or even just trying to get down to your ideal body weight, there’s an approach to help you do all of this.
The first thing that you want to do is define your outcome. Make sure that you’re clear. For instance, if you’ve been handed a diagnosis of diabetes or cancer, do you want to manage that illness or get rid of it completely?  Are you trying to do this in an all-natural way or the conventional way? What is it that you’re trying to accomplish? The answers to these questions will determine the approach that you use. This is the same with weight loss. What is your specific outcome? Are you just trying to lose weight or are you trying to compete in a marathon or do an Iron Man? The answer will determine who you seek out.  You want to make sure that your approach matches your outcome.
The second thing to do is make sure that you get help. Do not try to do it on your own.  There are people who are professionals at whatever it is that you’re trying to accomplish. So if you’ve been handed a diagnosis, especially a life threatening one, you want to make sure that you get a health professional that has studied this, knows the evidence and the research.  If you’re trying to do something performance related, seek someone that has done it for themselves and then has successfully taught others to do the same. That’s going to be very important when you’re trying to find who’s going to walk you through your goal and get you to where you want to be.The third thing is to identify what your challenges are. Everyone’s challenges are different.  Is your challenge:

Information? Do you need more information about the diagnosis? Do you need more information about what to eat to be able to accomplish your goal if you’re trying to get a six-pack or get down to your ideal body weight?

Leverage? If you have the information but you don’t have enough motivation to get you to take action then it is probably a leverage issue.

Accountability? If you know what you need to do and the leverage is there; you know how important it is but for whatever reason you can’t get yourself to consistently take action, then this is an accountablity issue. You may need to get an accountability partner – someone to hold you accountable in what you need to do on a daily basis.
