  • Limit or eliminate meat in your diet. If you are going to include meat make it a side dish not the main component of your meal and don’t’ eat it every day. When you do eat meat choose lean cuts like London broil or tenderloin and white meat chicken or turkey.
  • Eat foods without adding cheese. If cheese is a critical part of a recipe substitute veggie or soy cheese.
  • Substitute beans for meat in favorite dishes like spaghetti or tacos.
  • Choose skim or soy milk instead of whole or low fat milk.
  • Cook with olive oil instead of butter or other cooking oils.
  • Use cooking methods that require little or no fat like baking, broiling, grilling, steaming. If you sauté use vegetable broth or olive oil.
  • Use olive oil or canola oil based spreads instead of butter or traditional margarine.

  • Limit cream and other heavy soups, sauces and dressings (if you do get sauce or dressing get it on the side).
